Most
early design aircraft tyres and almost all general aviation tyres
will require inner tubes which generally share the same designation
as the tyre, for example a 5.00-5 tube fits a 5.00-5 tyre.
There
are however exceptions when the manufacturer is able to produce a
tube which fits more than one aircraft tyre size, for example the
5.00-5 tube can be used in both the 5.00-5 tyre as well as the
15x6.00-5.
Some
aircraft tyres are also designated in both imperial and metric
measurements. The 15x6.00-5 is also known as the 380x150-5 and hence
the 5.00-5 tube can be fitted to 15x6.00-5 and 380x150-5 as well as
the 5.00-5.
The
tubes also vary by valve design which are given TR designations for
example the 6.00-6 tube can be supplied with both a straight valve
TR20 and also a TR67 valve which has a 90º bend.
Many
tubes for early aircraft tyres are now obsolete but can occasionally
use alternative sizes, please call for specific information.
